Production of unprocessed and refined gold in Kazakhstan decreased slightly in 2025, according to the official statistics.
In January-December 2025, production of unprocessed and semi-processed gold, or in powder form, amounted to 127 tons. In 2024, general gold production in the country was 132.3 tons, representing a small decline of five tons over the year.
Meanwhile, the refined gold production by the Kazakhstan’s three refineries decreased less significantly, to 71 237 kg, slightly below the 2024 result of 74 258 kg of refined gold. By the way, Kazakh National Bank previously predicted that refined gold production would decline to 67 tons in 2025.
Refined gold produced in Kazakhstan is purchased by the National Bank, while the remaining unprocessed gold is exported abroad in polymetallic concentrate or ore. Refined and unprocessed gold production in Kazakhstan could probably decline in 2025 due to reduced production at Glencore’s Vasilkovskoye deposit in the Akmola region and polymetallic mines in eastern Kazakhstan.
Recently, the price of gold exceeded a record high of $4,700 per ounce.
Some experts estimate that illegal gold mining in Kazakhstan may be around 10-15 tons a year.
According to the website Trading Economics, Kazakhstan exported $2.7 billion worth of gold to Switzerland in 2024.
